Corona Virus Update

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you are all aware, we are in an extraordinary and unprecedented situation with the spread of coronavirus. Following the decision last night by the Government we are in a situation that school will be closing to all year groups. From Monday 23rd March and until further notice:

  • All work will be set for students via Google Classroom and some work in addition has been set on Homework Synergy. All students have been shown in school already how to access this and have over the past few days checked log in details in preparation. Guidance has been put on Student Bulletin and parent letters.
  • There may be initial teething problems as we all transfer to life in the ‘virtual’ world and we would ask for your patience and understanding, issues that arise will be rectified as soon as possible.

As you will appreciate that this is a highly complex and rapidly changing scenario and we are working as hard as we can to do everything possible to ensure the continued learning of our school community.

If there are issues with access requirements to Google Classroom or you need to communicate with school, we urge you to do this via the communication tab on the Parent Portal, as this would help greatly to track all messages in a more efficient way.

Provision in school is to be made for the following categories of workers:-

  • Students who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Vulnerable students – those students who have an allocated Social Worker
  • Key workers – currently the following, but we are awaiting further clarification on this list which the Education Secretary has said we will have later today
    • NHS workers/Teachers/Nursery Workers/Police/Prison Officers/Fire Fighters

In relation to key workers, if both parent/carers are NOT keyworkers, and one of the household is currently working from home there will be an expectation that your child will be educated via home learning.

Evidence to support your role will need to be provided to school, by way of a current ID badge or pay slip. You do not need to provide a full letter from your employer.

Please note it is not a requirement your child attends school if they fall in the above categories and they may remain at home.

Provision in school will mirror the resources being provided in the home learning environment.

Due to reduced numbers there also will be no catering facilities in school, a packed lunch will need to be provided unless on FSM whereby a voucher will be given.

As a matter of urgency can you please contact school reception either today or tomorrow to confirm if your child falls in the categories above and if it is your intention to send them into school.

We envisage this will be operational from next week, however further clarification when this will commence will follow by the end of the day tomorrow.

We understand how unsettling the current situation is for all our families and we will continue to support you and the wider community in the best way we can.

Yours sincerely

Mr P Scarborough

Coronavirus - What to do if you have symptoms

Stay at home for 14 days if you have either:

  • a high temperature
  • a new continuous cough

This will help to protect others in your community while you are infectious.

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. You do not need to contact NHS 111 to tell them you’re staying at home.
