Year 11 GCSE Grades 2020

The Government and Ofqual have now jointly agreed to use Centre Assessed Grades, which are the grades that schools and colleges assessed students were most likely to have achieved, had exams gone ahead. This was deemed by the Government to be the fairest approach to avoid some students receiving grades that did not reflect their prior performance.

Following this announcement, we will be informing students of their GCSE Grades on Thursday 20th August via the student portal.

We will also receive the calculated result which Ofqual have determined. You will receive the higher of the two grades that you have been awarded.

It is important to note that Centre Assessed Grades are not determined purely by the individual teacher assessment. Each school was asked to moderate these teacher assessed grades to ensure that they were broadly in line with previous years results within each subject and across the whole school. We were also asked to rank order each student within each grade. The media portrayal indicates that these are Teacher Assessed Grades which does not make clear the requested moderation process that school were asked to complete.

You can access your GCSE grades from the Student Portal on the Up Holland High School Synergy website from Thursday at 9:00 am. Please remember that any queries should be addressed to Mr Scarborough or Ms Nixon. Please do not communicate directly with teaching staff as it is part of the role of Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher to respond to any queries. We will both be in school that day to respond to any concerns or questions that you may raise. Please be aware that we will need time to fully work through any issues, particularly as the information and advice from the Government seems to be changing on a daily basis.

Careers North will also be in school between 10am and 1pm on Thursday 20th August for any students who feel they want further guidance. Mr Scarborough has also previously indicated that he is willing to speak to College Principals to support any applications for your choice of course and College. We wish you all the very best for Thursday.
