Year 7 Catch Up Funding

 

The DFE (Department for Education) allocates additional funding through the Y7 Catch Up Premium to support literacy and numeracy catch up for Year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of KS2.

 

The new allocation for 2018-2019 will be awarded in March 2019

How we intend to use the funding:

After analysing the previous year’s impact, we intend to focus on the following:

Literacy:

  • Continue IDL programme and purchase tablets to support delivery
  • Phonics intervention
  • An additional Numeracy/Literacy lesson timetabled
  • Targeted LSA support
  • Provide a ‘Summer school’ opportunity to support transition

 

 

Numeracy:

  • IXL maths programme and purchase tablets to support delivery
  • An additional Numeracy/Literacy lesson timetabled
  • Targeted LSA support
  • Provide a ‘Summer school’ opportunity to support transition

 

How we used the funding in 2017-2018

Literacy:

  • IDL programme
  • Phonics intervention
  • An additional Literacy/Numeracy lesson timetabled
  • Dyslexia Resources
  • Nurture group to develop oracy skills

Numeracy:

  • IXL programme
  • An additional Numeracy/Literacy lesson timetabled
  • Y10 Maths Buddy group (Numeracy Ninjas)

How we measured impact:

The impact of Y7 Catch up funding was monitored in line with the school’s assessment cycle and was analysed to measure progress.

  • Average reading age gain of Year 7 students using IDL was 2 years 1 month
  • Phonics re-testing  July 2018 showed a n average improvement in test scores (%age) of 8.4 % from baseline

 

Allocation of funding 2016-2017

In 2016-2017 we used the new KS2 scaled scores to identify pupils for the allocation of £8058. We identified a group of 16 pupils with an average scaled score below 93.

 

How we used the funding in 2016-2017

Literacy £4000:

  • IDL programme
  • Successmaker reading programme
  • PIXL phonics
  • Nurture group to develop oracy skills
  • Teaching resources to support dyslexia

 

Numeracy £4000:

  • IDL programme
  • Additional maths resources
  • Small group LSA withdrawal
  • General LSA support in lessons

Allocation of funding in 2017-2018

In 2017-2018 we used the KS2 scaled scores to identify pupils for the allocation of £8155. We identified a group of 15 pupils with an average scaled score below 96.
